Oh my gosh, what a delightful, hilarious holiday read! (Spoilers ahead.)

“Merry Chris Witch” tells the story of Chris Heron, a male witch kicked out of coven school for using his magic around normal humans and sent to public magic school. And he hates it. Just as much as he hates Christmas, a fact we see right away with his grumpy thought that all the Christmas decorations make him want to hurl. (Halloween is his favorite.) I also like the unique twist that using magic has a scent to it, and it’s different for each witch.

In CK’s story, the magical world is hidden from the normal world, and they merge at subway stations around the world. How cool is that? I’ve never seen a boundary like that, and I like the uniqueness of it. Well done!

At this public magic school, Chris mentions that there are fairies, trolls, mermaids, and elves (as in children of Santa’s elves). But they’re secondary characters, except for one or two who play an important role in this story. It’s two weeks before Christmas, and Chris meets Santa’s offspring, down from the North Pole for a visit. They have fun, grow close, and end up saving Christmas! (Seriously, I can’t give too much away, now can I?)

A short holiday read that’s funny and sweet and makes me want to write one of these too!

I found it here on Amazon.
